Un regalo hecho en casa/Home made present

Este año, algunas de mis amigas cumplieron ya 40 años. Sí, sí ¡40!. Suena fuerte, pero no es para tanto, están todas estupendas. Decidí que lo mejor, aunque no acostumbramos a hacernos regalos, era hacerles algo. Me encantan los regalos hechos en casa, y creo que significan mucho más que algo comprado. 

Bueno al grano, que me pongo a divagar...

This year some of my friends turned 40. 40! I know, sounds hard, but don't worry they all still look like 20. I decided to make them a little something. I love home made presents (I don's make them by hand so... home-made it is) so...

Mi propuesta estrella como regalo hecho en casa (no digo a mano, porque lo coso a máquina...) es esta cartera porta-agenda.

My top proposal is this organizer wallet

Hace tiempo me regalaron una moleskine y me acostumbré a apuntarlo todo, sin fecha, simplemente todo lo que tenía que recordar, o simplemente aquellas ideas que me inspiran, o dibujos... Dejo que mis hijos pinten en ella cuando se aburren... ¡en fin! la libreta en mi bolso se ha convertido en un indispensable.

I have a moleskine that I use all the time. I carry it in my bag and I note down everything that comes to mind: reminders, inspiration, possible patterns, you know... I even let my children draw and write on it, so a notepad in my bag has become an essential.

Así que cuando vi este tutorial de {lbg studio} supe que era el regalo ideal. ¡A mi me encantaría!

 Tiene el hueco para encajar la libreta y además, sitio para las tarjetas, todos los tickets y papeles que acumulamos, el lápiz de memoria y el lápiz de Ikea ;)
It has a lot of space to carry a notepad, your cards, tickets and the like, pen drive and a pencil from Ikea ;)

Lo hice en tela de algodón, utilizando entretela y en loneta, que tiene fuerza suficiente para no utilizar la entretela. Aproveché retales así que miel sobre hojuelas. La goma elástica de colores, la encontré en una tienda de esas que venden abalorios y fornituras

I used both quilting cotton with interfacing, and a heavier cotton that needed no interfacing. I used fabric from my stash and that made it even better. I got the elastic bands from one of those shops that sell beads and trimmings

 ¿Qué os parece? Yo estoy encantada y con ganas de hacer más.

DIY Calendario de Adviento / DIY Advent Calendar

 Edito esta entrada para enseñaros el resultado final de nuestros calendarios ya colgados y en el caso de mis hermanas, que son muy "apañás", ya llenos de chuches.

 Ya queda poco para que empiece diciembre y eso significa que ya está aquí la Navidad. En mi casa somos fans y cualquier adorno nos encanta y embelesa, así que un calendario de adviento no nos puede faltar. 

December will start soon and that jeans Christmas is here! We are fans and we love each and every ornament so an advent calendar had to be on its way!

Hace unos años, hicimos uno, pero se quedaba un poco pequeño. Así que mi hermana mayor pensó que ya era hora de cambiar, y decidió que íbamos a hacer no uno, ni dos sino ¡tres! calendarios de adviento. ¿La inspiración? El que aparece en la última foto y que mi madre compró en Alemania.

Some years ago we made one, but it soon proved to be too small, so my big sis decided it was time for a change and that we had to do not one, nor two but three! Advent calendars. The inspiration? The one that appears in the last photo which my mother bought in Germany

El proceso es muy sencillín: compramos un mogollón de fieltros en la mercería, creo que compramos todos los colores que tenían, pero en realidad sólo necesitas 24 planchas tamaño folio. De cada plancha saca dos formas iguales. Utilizamos 5 formas: calcetín pequeño, calcetín grande, estrella, corazón y manopla. Puedes descargarte las plantillas aquí. Todas las plantillas las copiamos en cartón para dibujarlas en espejo en el fieltro y cortarlas

The process is easy as pie: we bought all the colour felt that was available in the store, but you will only need 24 planks of different colour felts. From each plank you draw two equal templates, one for the back and one for the front, we used five different templates that you can download here: big sock, small sock, glove, star and heart. We transferred the templates into hard cardboard and drew them back wise onto the felt and cut them.

Del fieltro que sobra, sacamos los números que puedes descargar aquí, (aunque en realidad son sacados en Word fuente: “Comic sans” a tamaño 200) Sacamos también los adornos, y dejé que los peques cortaran y pegaran: lo bueno del fieltro es que con cola de contacto se pegan estupendamente. (aunque tened cuidado porque hay colas que son tóxicas por inhalación).
Además de los números, pegamos estrellitas, corazones, parches para los calcetines… ¡en fin! Todo lo que se nos ocurrió.

From the extra felt, we drew the numbers and ornaments. You can download the numbers here although they are just Word numbers using “comic sans” as the font and 200 as the size. I let my children draw, cut and glue all they liked. The good thing about felt is that it can be easily glued.

Finalmente, en la esquinita, cosemos un colgador de cola de ratón. Cosemos las dos formas iguales, dejando la parte de arriba abierta por donde vamos a meter las chuches o detalles para cada día. Cosí por el derecho porque me parecía que quedaba bien, aunque si hubiera tenido más tiempo hubiera usado hilos de colores.

Finally, we sewed a four inch satin cord in the corner, making a loop to hang it. We sewed front and back together leaving a gap to fill with sweets or notes for each day. We sewed wrong sides together, because I thought it looked nice enough. If I had had more time I would have used different colour threads but life happens…

Para colgarlo pásale una cuerda de algodón por los colgadores, busca el sitio más privilegiado de la casa y comienza la cuenta atrás hasta la Navidad. Se hace en una tarde, si empiezas ya, lo tendrás a tiempo. En cuanto tenga fotos de los nuestros colgados os las enseño, quería publicar a tiempo...

To hang it, just pull a cotton rope through the loops in each of the pieces, find the best spot at home and fill them with magic. As soon as I get the picture of ours, I'll post them. We have started the countdown to Christmas. WooHoo!!!!

Trabajar con diamantes/ Working with diamonds

 ¡Diamantes! ¡Qué sugerente! Pues sí, es sugerente y además adictivo. Este es uno de esos proyectos que rondan por tu cabeza, pero que no sabes muy bien cómo abordar. Vi este video de youtube hace tiempo, pero hablaba de "quilt patis" y aunque lo busqué en google no supe como hacerme con ellas.

Pero este año mi hijo empezó a ir a extraescolares y eso significa esperas y horas de no hacer nada ¡¡¡¡¿De no hacer nada?!!! Eso no va conmigo, así que llegó el momento

But this year my son started out of school classes, which means lots of waiting doing nothing. Doing nothing??!! No, that's not like me! It's time to hand sew!

 Me informé, vi unas cuantas veces el video de youtube, entré en el blog de Jessica y además encontré a  Ana de quilterbell que tenía dos quilts preciosos hechos con esta técnica.
I got all the information I could get, from youtube, from Jessica's blog, I also got to meet Ana from quilterbell who has already made two quilts with this technique.

 Descubrí que Authen-tic tenía las plantillas y me lancé. En una bolsita llevo, hilo en una canilla de la máquina para que no abulte mucho, aguja, tijeras, clips, las plantillas y telas cortadas con forma de diamante. Son tiras de un jelly roll que corto marcando con la regla 60º
I saw that authe-tic sold the templates and I embarked. In a little plastic pouch I carry a bobbin of thread, needle, scissors, paper clips, the templates and a bunch of fabrics already cut into diamonds. I took some strips from a jelly roll and cut them with the aid of the 60º mark on my ruler.

You can hold the fabric to the templates with paper clips, 

 Se le pasa un hilván, dando una puntada atrás en las esquinas para que se sujeten bien

and then you baste it, backstitching at the corners

 Se unen unas a otras con un sobrehilado
You join the pieces with a whipstitch

 Lo bueno de usar plantillas de plástico es que como el hilván no las atraviesa no hay que quitarlas después. Lo malo es que no las podemos retirar hasta que los cuatro lados del diamante estén cosidos. El paquete trae 21 plantillas que enseguida resultan pocas. Yo las copié y corté más de un plástico de esos que usan para encuadernar: acetato.
The good thing about the plastic templates is that while basting you don't go through the template, and so you don't need to undo it. On the other hand, you can only remove the template when you have the four sides of the template sewn in place so that you soon run out of the 21 templates that one packet contains. What I did was copying the templates into plastic from the covers of a notebook

 La técnica es English paper piecing y se utilizan formas como rombos, hexágonos...
The technique is called English Paper Piecing, and you can use diamonds or hexagons...

 Tiene un montón de utilidades, y desde luego, me parece la labor ideal para pequeños ratos libres.
You can make very different designs and I think this is the perfect project if you have waiting time

 Para las esperas,  para los viajes y hasta para las tertulias en los cafés. Siempre llevo una estrella en el bolso y poco a poco esta labor va creciendo. ¡Veremos a ver hasta dónde llego!
During my free time, for small or long trips, to do on a plane or even while you're having a coffee and a chat. I always carry my purse in my bag and little by little this quilt is growing. Let's see how far it takes me!

En mi casa varios hombre se están dejando bigote y "las chicas" de mi casa contribuímos con un poco de DIY. Para la peque pintamos una camiseta y para mi, pintamos una loneta blanca con bigotes encontrados en google y me fabriqué esta bolsa.

At home several men are growing " mos", and us, mosistas, are contributing by sporting self made tees and this tote.

Cuando estaba sacando las fotos, vacié mi bolso para poder darle forma y mirad lo que encontré ;)

While I was taking the pictures I emptied my bag to find all of these ;)
